Congratulations!!!
It’s so exciting to consider bringing a new dog friend into your family and what a big decision it is! There are so many things to consider: shelter or breeder, size, breed, age, and most importantly individual temperament. We can help guide you to find the type of dog that would be the best fit for your family and your lifestyle.
This is a new service so we will be developing and adjusting the offerings and price scale as we improve our understanding of what works best for clients.
The first step is scheduling a 30-minute video call to get a feel for your lifestyle, what you are looking for in your next dog, and your household details i.e. number of people, ages, other pets, work from home etc., and your prior dog-owning history. We will take that information and offer recommendations on where to start your dog search. If you would like further guidance a follow-up call can be scheduled.
Additionally, we can help you search adoptable dogs profiles or breeders and coach you through what questions to ask when you reach out.
If you would like assistance in assessing the temperament of your new prospective dog or puppy, we can do that too! Once you identify a dog you are interested in, we can come with you to the shelter or breeder and give you additional information on what we see in the dog and what it might take for the dog to be a good roommate for you in your home.
Finally, bringing a new dog home is exciting, and it is also a very big shift in your life and your home. There are ways to prepare for your dog to get off to the best start possible and it is important to understand the stresses of the transition for your dog as well as they adapt to the new space and social unit. Dog preparation sessions are great for puppy-proofing methods, agreeing on a routine the humans will create for the dog, crate training, introducing freedom in the house, introducing your new dog to a current canine family member etc. There is so much to consider and if you can prepare ahead of time you will help your new dog adjust to your home in a much smoother fashion.
And, of course, remember to schedule your first lesson with your new dog, especially if they are a puppy! The clearer things are from the beginning, the better your life together will be!
